longwood symphony orchestra logo The Longwood Symphony Orchestra is the orchestra of Boston’s medical community.  It is dedicated to utilizing music as a healing force to bring communities together.  Thousands of people have benefited each year from LSO performances through its "Healing Art of Music" program, which raises funds through LSO benefit concerts to support front-line agencies that provide health-related services to individuals and communities in need.  Over eighty percent of LSO musicians work in the health sciences, including full-time physicians, research scientists, medical students, nurses, and others.

ippnw logo International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) was founded by U.S. and Soviet physicians in 1980 concerned about the growing threat of nuclear war.  Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985, IPPNW has been widely credited (by Mikhail Gorbachev and others) for playing a crucial role in averting global nuclear holocaust by uniting physicians, citizens, and government leaders on the basis both of irrefutable scientific facts about the medical consequences of nuclear explosions and of humanity’s shared interest in survival and peace.  IPPNW today is a non-partisan federation of national medical organizations in 58 countries, representing tens of thousands of doctors, medical students, other health workers, and concerned citizens who share the common goal of creating a more peaceful and secure world freed from the threat of nuclear annihilation.
